Adam North

Adam has served as Lead Elder of Christ Central since January 2020. He is passionate about helping people discover and use the gifts God has given them, and seeing the church equipped to make disciples and bring hope and share truth in, around, and beyond Portsmouth.

Adam was born in Portsmouth and grew up attending church in nearby Havant. After studying Aerospace Engineering at the University of Southampton, he served as an officer in the Royal Navy, working with aircraft and travelling across the world. During this time, Adam was also involved in worship and church life at KingsGate Community Church near Peterborough.

Adam met Nikki at a friend’s wedding in Cape Town, South Africa. Nikki was born in Pretoria and grew up in Cape Town, where her family still live. She studied Education at the University of Stellenbosch and became a teacher before moving to the UK.

Adam and Nikki joined Christ Central in September 2012. They quickly became involved in student ministry and worship, and during those early years completed Commission’s Foundation in Theology course, building friendships across the wider family of churches.

In 2015, Adam left the Royal Navy to join the Christ Central staff team as Executive Pastor, helping provide leadership and support as the church grew. He later completed an MA in Applied Theology through Moorlands College, specialising in the Bible and preaching, with a particular interest in the relationship between church and culture.

Alongside the Eldership Team, Adam has helped lead Christ Central through a season of growth and multiplication, including welcoming a new congregation, developing wider leadership teams, and sending people to serve Christ in different contexts. His desire is to see Christ Central become a church family that is rooted in God’s Word, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and bringing hope and sharing truth in, around and beyond Portsmouth.

In his current role, Adam gives particular attention to strategic leadership, preaching, worship leading, pastoral care, leadership development, and developing local and global mission partnerships.

Adam and Nikki live in Southsea with their three daughters.
