Abiding: Where I Find My Home

Abiding: Where I Find My Home

Psalm 84 The Temple was where they came close to God. Even a weak and overlooked sparrow finds a home where animals would be sacrificed. Even those who aren’t in the temple yet but desire to go on a pilgrimage; the pilgrims make the dry places a source of water and they go from strength-to-strength on their journey. This is where happiness is found. How does this apply to those who live without a Temple to visit or go on pilgrimage to? From Series: "Teach Us To Pray: A Psalm for Every Season"

When we read and pray the Psalms, they don’t just express how we feel, they show us how we’re doing like a mirror shows us things that we can’t see otherwise. Yet the Psalms don’t just express how we feel or show us who we are; they change us. St Ambrose of Milan said: “The delightful book of the Psalms provides a true gymnasium for the soul with exercises to develop every virtue.” The Psalms shouldn’t be an echo chamber of our own prayers, doubts, laments, and praise. They move us further on, towards God in wonder, love and praise.
