King over the Chaos - Matthew 8:1-17

Here we see Matthew describe three encounters with Jesus straight after the Sermon on the Mount. The first with a leper, the second a Roman Centurion, and finally Peter’s mother-in-law. Jesus demonstrates his authority with each encounter. He shows his grace and compassion for people by meeting them where they are, in their desperate situations, and shows them mercy. Today he is the same; he meets us where we are, wherever that is and draws close.

From Series: "Matthew - Your Kingdom Come"

In January 2021 we spent time reading through The Sermon on the Mount in our series called “The New Normal”. As we worked through Matthew 5, 6 and 7 we looked at what God’s Kingdom looks like, what it means to be truly blessed and how we can know and love God more. Now, Jesus goes out, into the crowds, traveling round demonstrating the coming Kingdom. We see Him heal, call people to repentance, forgive, raise the dead, cast out demons, calm the storm and eventually calls his disciples to do the same. We want to see His Kingdom come in this city, we want to see Jesus move and we want to do the things we see Him do. In Portsmouth we want to see the light shine in the darkness; that’s who Jesus is, a light in the darkness and the darkness cannot over come.
