Pressing Toward the Goal
Philippians 3:1-14 Paul sees the worthiness of Jesus, especially when it’s compared to ANYTHING else! Here we see Paul say to the Philippians, “whatever gain I had, I counted it loss for the sake of Christ”. We press on to a glorious goal, a wonderful ending, and an eternal hope. Jesus is greater, he is the pearl of great price and the treasure hidden in a field. We must press onward, we keep going and head towards Jesus. From Series: "Philippians - Citizens of Heaven "
As we delve into Philippians, let us be reminded that our true citizenship does not belong to this world. We are not defined by fleeting cultural values but by the eternal reality of belonging to Christ. With this identity comes a holy invitation to live in joyful obedience, shine as lights in the world, and press on toward the goal set before us—a life that glorifies God and builds His kingdom. There are many areas of struggle that Philippians confronts: pride, anxiety, grumbling, disunity, love of money. Yet Paul’s motivation in bringing these things to light is LOVE. He seeks to do the Philippians good through teaching them in accordance with their new identities in Christ. He confronts because he cares and wants to release more of the spiritual life in the believer. As Paul writes in 1v2 ‘Grace and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.’ He ends his letter in 4v23 also with ‘Grace’. This letter, and this sermon series, is a grace-filled rescue mission to release joy and freedom as people live true to their identity as citizens of heaven. May this guide inspire both personal reflection and rich discussions within our church community. May it challenge us to live lives that point beyond ourselves, embodying the beauty of gospel-centered unity. Let us journey together as “citizens of heaven,” seeking the glory of the One who has made us His own.
