If you’re tired of feeling like you’re making up life as you go along, and you just want someone to guide you, then listen in. We all are. We’re all trying to build a happy life.
Proverbs 3:13 tells us, “Happy is a man who finds wisdom and who acquires understanding.”
This August, as a church family, we’re going to spend the month reading the Book of Proverbs together, one chapter each day.
Because we want to grow in wisdom, because we want to be happy.
We’ll begin on Sunday 2nd August with Proverbs 1. (Yes, okay, it’s slightly awkward starting Chapter 1 on 2nd August, but we wanted to start on a Sunday!)
Summer can be a wonderful season, but it can also be a season when normal routines disappear.
Holidays, travel, summer breaks, and changing schedules can make it easy for Bible reading to slip out of habit — or perhaps for some of us, it’s a habit we’re still trying to build.
Our hope is that by reading together, in sync as a church, we can encourage one another to keep seeking God day by day. But the goal is not simply to stay on schedule. The goal is to seek God for wisdom in the everyday moments of life.
Over the past year, we’ve preached through Gospel of Matthew and Book of Genesis, seeing how God’s great story shapes our everyday lives. Book of Proverbs takes us even further down to details of our lives, helping us live wisely in ordinary life: our words, mealtimes, relationships, working habits, financial decisions, parenting, and justice.
Daily Reflections and Sunday Sermons
From Monday to Saturday, we’ll share a short 3–5 minute video reflection from someone in our church on that day’s chapter.
On Sundays, instead of a reflection video, the sermon will be based on the next chapter in Proverbs, helping us connect our daily reading with our gathered worship as a church.
Another reason we’re doing this together is to help us stay connected during the summer months, when many people may be away on holiday or students have returned home for the break. Seeing familiar faces in the daily videos can help us continue encouraging one another even when we’re apart.
The daily videos will be available online on YouTube (click here!) and our Online Hub (join here!).
Links for the week’s readings and reflections will be included in our weekly Sunday email, and everything will also be accessible through this blog post.
Each one of these below will be a link when they’re available – so click them when you’re ready!
Here’s a prayer we’ll pray each Sunday before the sermon. It’s from Zach Eswine’s book Wiser With Jesus. Why not pray it each day too?
Jesus, you are the wisdom of God.
The God whose wisdom I love.
I’m forsaken, foolish, a fraud,
lest you guide me below and above.
Be mine in every thought, this day.
My words made wiser by yours.
Be mine in every step, I pray.
My heart, your wisdom secures. Amen.
